Can you tell us a little about yourself.
I am an LA native and I love it. In my last semester of college I won a full-ride scholarship, which allowed me to take my first international trip just after graduating. That’s when I was bitten with the travel bug. I worked in television news for a couple years in San Diego before returning to Los Angeles. I also worked as a 5th grade teacher and substitute taught high school Spanish, Geometry and Algebra. I knew I wanted to be a travel television host, but all the job postings I found called for a white, male, 50+. I couldn’t check off one box. So I hired myself and created my own travel show, Rhythm Abroad with BrittanyPierce, now airing nationally on public television. Aside from travel, I love to cook healthy, organic food packed with lots of flavor. I enjoy speaking Spanish whenever the opportunity presents itself and laughing with family and friends.
A warm jacket as I am always cold, a neck pillow to attempt to get any sleep possible, and a camera to capture spectacular views from above
I have visited 16 countries. Most likely my 2016 travel plans will include visits to Jamaica, Fiji, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Japan, and either Croatia or Ireland. We’ll see how the wind blows.
I definitely use points to redeem flights, but I don’t spend time seeking fare glitches. However, I find that booking flights within 4-6 months prior to departure usually provides the best prices. Booking on Cyber Monday also seems to provide a pocket load of savings.
There is no specific destination. I think it is important for us all to explore the world in which we live. Travel, especially international, opens us to a greater wisdom, understanding and appreciation of life.
Do you have a favorite hotel?
Villa Agung Khalia in Bali, Indonesia—beautiful, understated luxury set amongst the rice fields of Ubud.
Where’s the best beach?
Pretty hard to beat the beaches of Tahiti.
Bangkok, Thailand is forever poppin’.
Ok, we’re wrapping up…but what’s your dream destination?
Seychelles and Vanuatu, but as I am constantly learning about different countries my dream destination list seems to be ever growing. For example, Finland is now inching its way on the list. I’d like to stay in a glass igloo, watch the northern lights and go dog sledding on a blanket of snow.
